The Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) has announced that it is planning to build retirement homes both for locals and foreign nationals. The plan will not only make the UAE more attractive to older expats, but will also require an extra wave of medical professionals to fill the job vacancies. It is also expected that the Arab Health Congress will bring in thousands of medical experts and medical technology firms to Dubai.
The DHCC was launched in 2002 by the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to meet the demand for high-quality, patient-centered healthcare. According to CEO of Dubai Healthcare City, Marwan Abdin, a medical teaching college is also being planned “We are currently revisiting designs and plans ,” he said. “DHCC is committed to education and to building a specialised medical talent pool in the region.” Abdin also told Dubai -based Gulf News that the new homes will be located at the Continuing Care Retirement Community and international specialists will be on hand to provide medical support to the residents.
