Cadogan Tate assists SCO Family of Services distribute blankets following Superstorm Sandy

SCO Family of Services is an organisation that exists to improve the lives of vulnerable people in New York. It specialises in helping young children get off to a good start in life, “stabilising and strengthening families and unlocking potential for children and adults with special needs”.
When Superstorm Sandy hit the city and left in its wake utter devastation, they kicked into action, appreciative of the fact that they could make an important difference to those most at-risk.
High on the agenda for SCO was distributing 8,000 blankets that had been received from the Robin Hood Foundation to people in Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens and Long Island, Sharman Stein, director of communications, said.
In terms of logistics, this equated to 320 two-foot by three-foot boxes (storing 25 blankets). Simply put, they had no way of achieving this. Here is where Cadogan Tate stepped in.
“They initially called another trucking company that we deal with,” explained Stephen McHugh, business development executive at the moving and storage company. “But they had lost almost their entire fleet during the storm. So that company gave the family services our number.”
There was no question about whether they would help. When, where, what’s the logistics…that’s the response Cadogan Tate made when they received a call from Kathy Sullivan, associate director of strategic partnerships at SCO Family of Services.
So they got to it. After rescheduling some work, the company dispatched two drivers that very same day, both of whom worked until late in the evening delivering the blankets to the Genovese Family Life Center, El Camino and Madonna Heights Services. A small generous act has made a wealth of difference.
In an email, Ms Sullivan thanked the company from the bottom of her heart for their generosity, writing that words couldn’t convey her deep appreciation “for the magnitude of your gift”.
“You have made a difference!” she closed.
Ms Stein added: “SCO Family of Services is deeply grateful to Cadogan Tate for helping us to help vulnerable children and adults during Hurricane Sandy. Because they were willing to lend a hand – and a truck – SCO Family of Services was able to distribute thousands of blankets to children and adults who really needed the warmth and comfort as fast as possible.”
