The area of St John’s Wood in North London has a reputation for enthralling its residents, many of whom choose to never leave, and it is easy to understand why. Situated just North of Regent’s Park and a stone’s throw away from Mayfair, St John’s Wood is certainly one of the most in-demand areas amongst affluent professionals working in the city.

Thanks to its ornate Italianate villas and Victorian Gothic stylistic flourishes, the area was designated as a conservation area by English Heritage. This means that every effort is made to keep as much of the original architecture in place as possible. St John's Wood boasts some of the best regal to modern architecture, from grade-II listed Victorian homes to ultra-modern apartment blocks. The property prices range going from £0.5 million to £16 million for some of the most in-demand properties in Avenue Road.
The most generously portioned houses can be found along Norfolk Road and Cavendish Avenue, which is where you can find detached Victorian houses and villas, many of which with gothic details. Whereas the Lisson Grove area offers a more modest entry point for those looking to move into the area.
A large number of the many people considering moving to St John’s Wood are American nationals that want to live near the American school in Waverley Place, which takes around 1,300 students from kindergarten through to high school.
Aside from the ever-popular and iconic Abbey Road crossing, St John’s Wood has many attractions and reasons residents stay within the area on the weekends. Arguably the most famous and oldest scientific zoo in the world is London Zoo which is home to more than 12,000 animals and sits alongside Regent’s Park.
Just across the road from Regent’s Park is another magnet for people coming to the St John’s Wood area, Lord’s Cricket Ground. Lord’s is the home of cricket in England and is the stage for many of the major matches during the season. There are a handful of flats which overlook the pitch itself however these are amongst the most in-demand apartments in the city.
Known for some excellent shopping hotspots in, and around, St John’s Wood from everyday essentials such as independent butchers, greengrocers and fishmongers to exquisite fashion boutiques. There is also a fine selection of bars, restaurants and cafes in the area, such as the classically glamorous Soutine, which offers a traditional, and renowned, Parisian menu. Alternatively, the more adventurous diner should head to Sahara, a highly recommended Lebanese restaurant on St John’s Wood High Street.
