With a dedicated container five to seven weeks should be allowed for shipping to Canada’s East Coast and six to nine weeks for the West Coast. For shared containers seven to ten weeks should be allowed for both East and West Coast destinations. You will then potentially need to allow a further five to ten days for delivery from the destination port. Your Move Co-ordinator will be able to advise you on expected timing when you receive a quotation from us.
Similar to other countries certain items being shipped into the country may need to undergo inspection as part of the customs clearance process. You will need to be present when your goods are cleared; Canadian customs require a detailed inventory of consignments into the country. Your Surveyor and Move Co-ordinator can advise you on what to take with you and what it might be best to leave behind when shipping to Canada. We will also provide you with details of Canadian restrictions and a guide to help you with planning your move.
There are a variety of restrictions when taking a car to Canada, all vehicles must be cleared by Customs and you will need to bear in mind that all motor vehicles are subject to special attention in terms of Customs Duty as well as Goods and Service Tax (GST) in some cases. These vary between vehicles and have to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. If you are planning on taking your vehicle to Canada we recommend that you make sure it will be allowed into the country. You can find out more information by visiting the vehicle importation pages on the Transport Canada website or calling +1 613 998 8616.
Transporting pets is a very specialist area and each requirement is unique and therefore has to be dealt with individually. Taking common household pets such as cats and dogs to Canada is relatively straight-forward. You will need to make sure that your pet is certified to travel with all the relevant paper work from your vet.
