Moving to Hong Kong

Cadogan Tate International Removals ships household consignments from the UK and Europe to Hong Kong on a regular basis. Whilst we understand that every overseas move can be a stressful time, moving to Hong Kong is relatively straight-forward as a destination. With Cadogan Tate by your side it will be even simpler.

How long should you allow for shipping to Hong Kong?

You should allow 4 to 6 weeks for full load containers and 6 to 8 weeks for shared load groupage containers. Your Move Co-ordinator will advise on the transit time required for shipping to Hong Kong and any Customs clearance following the survey and acceptance of the our quotation.

As a free port Customs clearance and import duties in Hong Kong are light compared with many international destinations. Your Surveyor will confirm these with you as part to the survey.

Taking a car or motor vehicle

Importing a car into Hong Kong is expensive due to the first registration tax that is due on imported private cars. Cars will be subject to emissions and noise testing. Bear in mind that all motor vehicles are subject to special attention in terms of Customs Duty as well as Goods and Service Tax (GST) in some cases. These vary between vehicles and have to be dealt with on a case by case basis.

We recommend that you investigate these thoroughly and can provide information on shipping cars to Hong Kong if you wish.

Can you take pets?

Transporting pets is a very specialist area and each requirement is unique and therefore has to be dealt with individually. You can take common household pets such as dogs and cats when moving to Hong Kong, a special permit is required to bring the pet into the country and this will need to be arranged in advance. If you are interested in moving your pet to Hong Kong please discuss this with your Surveyor who will be able to provide you with the information you require.

Your next steps

If you would like a quotation one of our surveyors will arrange a visit to talk you through everything and answer any questions you may have. They will assess your belongings and put together an accurate quotation for moving to Hong Kong. Once you are happy we will draw up a plan of exactly what is going to happen, organise a convenient moving date and assign you a Move Co-ordinator who will be there to support you at every stage of your move.
