Specialist Removals Services – Case Studies

Here are some examples of how our tailored customer supportive removals service has helped our customers:

A fully managed move

A famous historic Irish family was moving from a stately home in the centre of Dublin to Sussex and wanted the contents of their home divided up for consignment to six additional destinations. We flew a team of six of our highly trained specialist moving team to Dublin and spent three weeks packing, casing and organizing the contents of the home.

From the second week onwards we were able to dispatch a fully loaded vehicle back to England every day. We sourced local electricians, case makers and stone masons and flew in specialists from London to dismantle the six huge, magnificent chandeliers. After two years in our high security warehouse we delivered, re-assembled and installed these in Sussex.

Time-sensitive move

A customer’s daughter was getting married and plans had been made to hold the reception in their family home in St John’s Wood. Cadogan Tate was engaged to pack and remove all of the ground floor furniture and store it over the weekend while the reception took place and then to re-install it on the Monday morning. We photographed every detail of every room before the move started and after the party we unpacked each piece and placed it back in the exact position it had occupied before the party.

On the day services

A long-established customer called us about how best to get delivery of a single piece of glass worth £10,000 to Amsterdam, to complete the construction of their yacht. This piece of very specialized glass measured only 1ft x 3ft. We carefully packed and cased it, hand-carried it on a plane with its own seat and delivered it personally to the yacht builder.

Restricted access

A family with young children was moving from South Kensington to a substantial country house in Wiltshire. The lady of the house neither had the time nor the inclination to pack or unpack her belongings and so she engaged Cadogan Tate to professionally pack everything.  We dismantled and wrapped the children’s cots and beds and her own sleigh-bed. We packed and labeled everything and of course we had arranged parking directly outside her house to allow easy access for the two large vans that were required.

The new home in the country had a long narrow drive with an impossibly tight turn between two rhododendron hedges. Rather than risk damage to the shrubs we arranged for a smaller vehicle to travel down to Wiltshire with the two pantechnicons. The consignment was transferred to this little van, which was then driven from halfway along the drive up to the front door. The crew unloaded everything, re-assembled the cots and beds and the kitchen items so that the first night would be comfortable and the kitchen would be ready for breakfast the next morning. They stayed locally overnight and by lunchtime the move was completed with the cartons and packing materials cleared away.

Crane and platform services

A couple needed to move their collection of fine oak furniture and a Steinway concert grand piano from their fourth floor flat. The property had undergone some modifications since the piano had been installed and it was no longer possible to move everything out of the flat by the stairs. We negotiated with the landlord for permission to temporarily remove a canopy over the balcony, engaged skilled tradesmen to remove it, arranged for a road closure with the local Council and Police and booked a crane to arrive at 8:00am the next day.

The crane hoisted the bespoke crates we had manufactured for the piano and five other items up to the balcony, where our team packed them quickly and efficiently. By 11:00am we were ready to move and we maneuvered the full crates onto the balcony from where the crane lowered them to the street. At the destination we delivered everything (including the Steinway) through the front door and removed the empty cases. We had arranged for Steinway to tune the piano upon arrival and within an hour of unpacking its owner was happily playing it.

Fine art, antiques and art installations

A customer was very interested in buying a painting in a forthcoming sale at a leading auctioneer. However, he really wanted to see it hanging over the mantelpiece in his fine Palladian house in the New Forest before he decided whether or not to bid. We arranged for its temporary release by the auction house, insured, delivered, unpacked and hung the painting on a Tuesday afternoon, stayed overnight locally and collected and returned it to the auction house the following day in plenty of time for the sale. Our customer bid successfully for the painting which hangs over his fireplace to this day.
